Research Questions
H1: Video game advertisements have a persuasive impact on college students
We know that advertisements on TV are partly responsible for places like Taco Bell having huge increases in sales after their promotions air, but can a campaign or ad be just as persuasive within a video game?
One study suggests that advergaming works.
H2: Healthy food-advertising within video games can persuade American college students to make healthier dietary choices.
Healthy foods do not have a stigma of being tasty, affordable, or otherwise popular. Using healthy foods within video games, even with a sponsored brand such as Kashi, may not be persuasive to Americans--especially college students, thanks to this stigma. If convincing a student to eat healthy foods is not possible with this approach, there might still be a chance that using healthy foods instead of unhealthy foods within video games will reduce the amounts of cravings, and ultimately reduce obesity rates--if only as just a starting point.
